You have a quick visit on the Northisland and only time to visit the 5 best spots? Here we go:
Northisland Nr. 1 is Napier
Napier impressed me from the first second to the last second. Just at the Waterfront are all the Hostels. The YHA was the best for me. At the right time of the year you have a chance to see seals at the beach.
Just a 5 minutes walk from the YHA is the ocean spa with adorable pools and a view of the ocean.
TE WHARE TANGAROA O AOTEAROA – National Aquarium of New Zealand – For every fish lover a must to do. You have a chance to swim with sharks for 80$ or you are able to help them feeding the pinguins.
Visit one of the beautiful Winerys and have a look over Napier.
Have a typical Kiwi meal at the Breakers Restaurant.
Visit the Bluff Hill lookout and have a beautiful view over Napier and the Ocean. I recommend to walk up the hill, you will cross a waterfall and it is worth to watch how the people live there.
Drive to Havelock North and climb up the Te Mata Mountain with a stunning view. It is possible to get up there with the car or you do a daily tour and walk up.
Drive to Tangoio and visit the Shine Falls, Te Ana Falls and Tangoio Falls. You will get to the most beautiful waterfalls. Make a stop at Lake Tutira, a perfect spot for a lunch break.
Northisland Nr. 2 is Whitianga and Coromandel
You love to visit beaches? That’s the spot for you!
One of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the World: New Chumps Beach… I recommend good shoes!
Hot Water Beach – Take a shuffle with you, make a hole in the sand until you get to the hot water. It’s like your own ocean spa at the beach <3
Coromandel cathedrale cove – you will love this beach – a waterfall at the beach and the popular hole in the rock.
Northisland Nr. 3 is Te Puke and Tauranga
Te Puke isn’t such a special spot actually, but you can find a working hostel there and I had one of the best 5 weeks in my life in this hostel. If you get stuck there make a day trip to the hot pools near Rotorua.
Visit Tauranga – a beautiful beach to make a fire at night
Mt. Maunganui – perfect for a beautiful view. At the right time of the year you can see some pinguins.
Northisland Nr. 4 is Cape Reinga and Karikari Peninsuela
Karikari Peninsuela is a non tourist spot and absolutly beautiful. you can find beautiful beaches and stunning views up there.
on your way up to Cape Reinga you should make a stop at the 90 mile beach and if you have the idea to drive on the beach with the car, make sure it is an 4×4.
Cape Reinga with the sand dunes. Make sure you have a mattress or a good plastic bag for some surfing fun.
And of course the Lighthouse. You can see a line in the water where the two oceans meet.
Northisland Nr. 5 is Paihia
A very touristic place but still worth to visit.
Make sure you stay at the Bay of adventure hostel. They have a whirlpool that you can use anytime.
Visit the Haruru Falls. If you wanna go for hiking there is a way through the forest and you get to see the truly nature of new zealand.
Have lunch at a fish and chip shop.
